At Love Hair, we always prioritize natural, organic ingredients and never settle for mediocrity in our formulas. We wanted to highlight another popular ingredient used in some of our products: organic shea butter. It has been a long-time cult favourite in the worlds of skincare and haircare, and for good reason. Keep reading to learn why it’s a must-have in your routine 👇
Heads up! Organic shea butter is a primary ingredient in our nourishing conditioner and hair mask.
What is shea butter?
Shea butter is extracted from the shea nuts of the shea-karite tree, which is native to West Africa. Shea butter has been used for cosmetic reasons for centuries due to its richness in vitamins and fatty acids. Its spreadable consistency makes it a popular addition to skincare and haircare routines. It is safe for all skin types, and is often used to moisturize and hydrate the skin. It’s not just good for giving your skin some extra glow, but it can also give your hair some much-needed TLC.
Here are just a few of the benefits:
- Shea butter moisturizes and revitalizes, making dull hair a thing of the past!
- It reduces scalp inflammation & irritation
- It may promote hair growth
- It can even protect your hair and scalp from environmental toxins and sun damage
Organic vs. Refined
The difference here lies in the processing (and what’s left after the processing). Organic shea butter is free of any additives or chemicals, and has no added scents. It is also extremely rich in natural vitamins (such as vitamin A and E), as well as natural antioxidants and fatty acids. Refined shea butter, on the other hand, goes through a refining process that removes not only the colour and scent, but many of the healing properties. While refined shea butter has a longer shelf life, it lacks many of the skin and haircare benefits found in organic unrefined shea butter.
