All About Our Sustainable Packaging

All About Our Sustainable Packaging

Beautiful and sustainable. That's what you'll find when it comes to Love Hair packaging. Jars, bottles, and boxes that not only look great on your bathroom shelf but that are also good to the Earth. When setting out to create Love Hair, we were tired of compromising: natural ingredients vs. effective products, beautiful packaging vs. sustainability. We wanted it all. So what makes Love Hair's packaging so special? From bottles made of 100% Brazilian Sugar Cane to wind energy manufacturing, our mission is to redefine traditional manufacturing practices and be radically transparent about our products. Read on to get the full scoop on our groundbreaking packaging.

Why Sustainable Packaging?

We believe in love. That's the core of what we do at Love Hair. Love for ourselves, our earth, our fellow human beings, and our furry friends. We're only on this Earth for a short time, and we believe in making as little of a negative impact as possible on our home. We would rather spend months searching for the perfect, environmentally-friendly materials than cut corners and use ones that are harmful, cheap, and environmentally irresponsible.

What is Sustainable Packaging?

Love Hair proudly sources materials that are manufactured using 100% renewable energy, which are 100% recyclable at the end of their life cycle, and leave behind the smallest ecological and environmental footprint possible. Our sustainable packaging features the following elements:

Recyclable Packaging

      100% Brazilian Sugar Cane Braskem

Sugar might be bad for your health, but it's great for the environment! We have spent over a year sourcing the highest quality, sustainable packaging on the market for our wet and dry products, like our Volumizing Dry Shampoo bottle. These bio-based bottles are made from I’m Green Polyehylene Braskem, derived from 100% Brazilian Sugar Cane, which is a raw, renewable resource. As conventional plastic bottles are made with fossil fuels, this significantly reduces greenhouse gas emissions, leaving our Earth just a little cleaner.

      Sustainable packaging

Love Hair Coconut Oil is not only 100% pure, organic oil, but the glass jar it comes in is 100% recyclable and can be used over and over again for years to come. Keep losing bobby pins? Simply wash out your empty Coconut Oil jar and use it as storage for hair accessories. Since Love Hair Coconut Oil is 100% pure, unrefined, organic oil, so there is no risk of contamination. In fact, it is even safe to eat.

      Sustainable packaging

In the same way, not only is our Nourishing Hair Oil an oh-so-good for your hair mix of all-natural, organic ingredients, the glass bottle packaging is great for the Earth. Once you've finished up a bottle, either recycle it or repurpose the container for homemade oils. You can also convert it into a spray bottle by adding a spray cap attachment or even create a mini flower vase.

      Sustainable Packaging

      Wind Energy

Most Love Hair box cartons are made from 100% wind energy to save our earth from depleting non-renewable energy sources and greenhouse gasses released from the combustion of fossil fuels at power plants. Wind energy is sustainable and renewable, generated from wind turbines, which work as long as the sun shines and the wind blows. Wind energy is not only sustainable but emits zero greenhouse gasses.

Fun fact: wind energy is actually a form of solar energy. Wind is caused by the sun unevenly heating up the atmosphere. This leads to low-pressure areas and high-pressure areas, causing the air to move, and create, you guessed it, wind!

      FSC Certified Paper Boxes

The Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) is the leading global, not-for-profit organization dedicated to keeping our trees alive. FSC works with global environmental, social, and economic organizations to set the standard for responsibly managed forests, taking into account the needs of everyone from Indigenous People to local wildlife. If a product is marked with a little tree (the FSC logo), you can be sure that the product has been sourced responsibly and that you are doing your part to ensure that our forests remain thriving.

The beautiful paper boxes that your Love Hair products are packaged in are 100% eco-friendly and FSC certified, made with a combination of fibres from FSC forests and FSC-controlled recycled material. You can rest assured that no paper used by Love Hair has come from any of the following:

      • Illegally harvested forests
      • Forests harvested in violation of traditional and civil rights
      • Forests in which high conservation values are threatened
      • Forests that are being converted to plantations or non-forest use
      • Forests in which genetically modified trees are planted.

      Sustainable Packaging

      Soy Ink

Most Love Hair products are printed with soy-based ink, a healthier, environmentally-friendly alternative to regular, petroleum-based ink. As the name suggests, soy ink is derived from soybeans as an oil. The oil is then refined and mixed with natural resins and natural waxes to achieve different colours.

Petroleum-based ink, or conventional ink, is derived from non-renewable crude oil, which is drilled from the earth and then refined into ink. As petroleum is a toxic, flammable liquid even as an ink, it tends to contain a high amount of volatile organic compounds (VOC). These compounds, such as toluene, benzene, and xylene can be carcinogenic and are harmful to the environment, people, and wildlife.

While soy ink is more costly to produce and dries slower, it contains a fraction of the VOCs that petroleum-based ink contains, is biodegradable, and is much more sustainable than its petroleum-based counterpart.

      Sustainable Packaging

Beautiful, sustainable, and effective. That's the Love Hair way. If you have any questions regarding our sustainable packaging, we'll be happy to answer them at hello@lovehair.com.
