What is Hair pH, and Why is it Important?

Did you know? The pH of your hair plays a significant role in your overall hair health and the strength of your strands.

For a quick refresh, the pH scale runs from zero to 14. Zero through six is the acidic side of the spectrum, while eight through 14 is alkaline. 7 on the pH scale is neutral.

So why does this matter in the world of haircare?

Well, your hair has a natural pH of around 4.5-5.5, meaning it sways more to the acidic side. However, many products disrupt this natural balance by pushing our hair’s pH level to the alkaline side.

This happens via colouring and bleaching, as well as some shampoos that use alkaline cleaning agents. This change in pH causes dryness, irritation, itchiness, and overall stripping of your hair’s natural oils.

So what can be done to restore my hair’s pH balance?

Using products that don’t disrupt your hair’s natural balance is essential. At Love Hair, we’re proud to offer 100% natural and organic products, free of the chemicals and additives that harm your hair. Our shampoo falls within your hair’s natural pH range, therefore keeping your hair balanced.

Consistently using quality products on your hair (that don’t push your hair to the alkaline side of the scale) will gradually improve your hair health and help it reach its natural balance.
